The course will provide an overview of special education law with emphasis on the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and its implementing regulations. Participants will learn what the law requires of public schools in addressing the educational needs of students with disabilities. The interplay of the IDEA with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act (Section 504) and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) will be addressed as well. An overview of Supreme Court decisions impacting the IDEA will be covered.
