Charles Lucas is 1977 graduate of the University of Virginia Law School. Following a clerkship with the Eastern District of Louisiana, he joined an outside law firm in NYC as a litigation associate, specializing in anti-trust and securities law matters. In 1987, he joined ICI PLC as the head of their in-house litigation department. In 1993, he became General Counsel of Zeneca Pharmaceuticals. Since then he has held a number of positions in several pharmaceutical companies and served as General Counsel of BIO, the biotechnology trade association. In the course of his career as an in-house attorney, he has been responsible for leading legal departments/teams supporting US pharmaceutical operations, as well as global R&D activities and health policy initiatives.

He has had extensive experience in administering legal departments, working with outside counsel and managing in-house investigations.
