Cost Effective Legal Research: What Is It? Do I Still Have to Know How to Do It with AI? is a one hour CLE designed to help attorneys and paralegals integrate the research components of GAI and use them effectively with cost effective legal research websites and strategies. It will review reputable websites that provide access to primary sources of American law, i.e., cases, statutes, and regulations. It will discuss research strategies, including prompt engineering when using a GAI. It will conclude with a check list that allows attorneys to effectively put the information together.

Lisa Smith-Butler, Esq.
Lisa Smith-Butler, Esq. earned her J.D., Cum Laude, from Creighton University School of Law and her M.L.S. from Clark Atlanta University, and she practiced law in Georgia and Nebraska before transitioning to law librarianship in 1993. She has served in increasingly senior positions in law library administration at multiple universities, including as Associate Dean of Libraries at Charleston School of Law from 2009 to 2017, and currently holds the position of Associate Professor of Law at Charleston School of Law where she teaches courses in Torts, Children and the Law, Professional Responsibility, and Workplace Privacy.
