Huw Beverley Smith Esq

Huw Beverley-Smith is a Partner in the Technology Transactions Group at Faegre Drinker Biddle & Reath in London.

For over twenty-five years, Huw has worked at the intersection of intellectual property, privacy, data and cybersecurity laws, advising customers and suppliers on a wide range of international technology transactions. He counsels clients globally on AI, privacy and cybersecurity issues and helps navigate regulatory hurdles and operational and commercial risks. 

He has advised on international compliance programs, particularly in respect of the General Data Protection Regulation, Data Act, and the EU AI Act for clients throughout the U.S., Europe and Asia in numerous sectors, including banks, insurers, IT and telecom vendors, health care providers, pharmaceutical companies, manufacturers, publishers and retailers.

Huw is the author of two books in the Cambridge Intellectual Property and Information Law series and “Rights in Data and Information” in the Oxford Handbook of Intellectual Property Law. He is a member of the City of London Law Society’s expert panel on AI, drawn from leading international law firms to advise on policy and regulatory issues particularly how to support the City of London’s reputation in responsible AI implementation.
