Born and raised in the Montgomery County suburbs of Washington, DC, Joseph H. Tipograph received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Michigan in 2002 with a major in Economics and received both his Juris Doctor and his Master’s in Business Administration from Emory University in 2008. He is licensed to practice law in the District of Columbia, the State of New York and in the United States District Court for the Western District of Wisconsin. Since 2010, he has served in American Bar Association leadership roles including as Vice Chair for the Section of Antitrust Law’s Insurance & Financial Services and Compliance & Ethics Committees.
INTERNATIONAL CRIMINAL INVESTIGATIVE AND POLICY ISSUES
Mr. Tipograph offers legal and analytic services on international law and policy matters, including:

Mr. Tipograph is a published expert in antitrust law with a strong track record of success and a positive reputation in the field. His contributions to the discipline include:
• Litigating high-profile competition cases including cases exploring the intersection of antitrust and intellectual property law, and involving international jurisdiction issues;
• Counseling companies and organizations on competitive business practice compliance;
• Representing companies and executives in state and federal merger and conduct probes;
• Analyzing high profile antitrust merger reviews for institutional investors.
Prior to forming Tipograph Law LLC, Mr. Tipograph worked as an antitrust associate for some of the largest law firms in the United States and helped launch one of the leading antitrust publications on the market today. He has successfully represented Fortune 500 companies and executives in civil and criminal litigation and in front of the Department of Justice and Federal Trade Commission (FTC). He helped prepare of a winning memorandum in opposition to a motion to dismiss on summary judgment in Insignia Systems, Inc. v. News America Marketing In-Store, Inc., 661 F.Supp.2d 1039 (D. Minn. 2009), one of the few instances in recent history that a federal court has ruled on summary judgement to preserve an antitrust plaintiff’s federal monopolization claims for trial and which enabled the client to negotiate a nine-figure settlement.
CYBER SECURITY
In private practice, Mr. Tipograph managed cyber-security crises for some of the largest companies by leading round-the-clock surveillance operations, coordinating with investigators, developing legal and media response strategies and keeping clients apprised of data hacking incidents and methodologies. Through this experience, he is familiar with several techniques employed to penetrate data security firewalls or otherwise frustrate operations including Structured Query Language (SQL) injections, social engineering, and Distributed Denial of Service (DDOS) attacks.

In launching the Capitol Forum, a leading antitrust publication, Mr. Tipograph authored virtually all the publication’s reports, thereby enabling the company to generate more than $2 million in annual subscription revenue and earn a reputation as one of the most accurate and thorough predictive analysts, in just its first nine months on the market. The company continues to rely on the methodology he developed and his expansive network of antitrust and industry contacts in its efforts to predict the outcomes of the highest-profile merger antitrust reviews. In his time with the company, he conducted and published on-the-record interviews with leading antitrust professionals including current and former FTC Commissioners and Bureau Directors.
