Alexis Jani was born in Hartford, Connecticut and raised in Princeton, New Jersey. She obtained a Bachelor of Arts from Johns Hopkins University in Political Science in 2006. While obtaining her undergraduate degree, Ms. Jani was a member of APO service fraternity. She volunteered religiously with Moveable Feast, an organization which provides home-cooked meals for those living with HIV and AIDS in Baltimore. During her undergraduate education, Ms. Jani was committed to expanding education access and education policy. She taught kindergarten with the Center for Summer Learning. She testified in front of Maryland State Legislature concerning her experience teaching summer school and the great effects of summer learning loss. She interned at the ACLU of Maryland in the education department. 

In 2009, Ms. Jani earned her Juris Doctor from Tulane Law School in New Orleans, Louisiana. Ms. Jani argued on to Moot Court in 2007 and was awarded a position on the Moot Court Board in 2008. She was on the editorial board of the Tulane Journal of Law and Sexuality. While at law school, Ms. Jani clerked at the Civil District Court for the Parish of Orleans. She worked for the Tulane Law School Domestic Violence Clinic and the Juvenile Law Clinic. Ms. Jani won a Pro Bono Award for her volunteerism at the Pro Bono Project providing legal services for those in need. Ms. Jani also worked at the New Orleans Legal Aid Corporation helping victims of domestic violence.

Ms. Jani is barred in the State of Louisiana. For the first 15 years of her career, Ms. Jani specialized in personal injury and insurance defense. Ms. Jani is currently a partner at The Bowling Law Firm, a small firm in New Orleans, Louisiana, specializing in medical malpractice. 25% of her practice is defending hospitals and 75% of her practice is representing plaintiffs. Throughout her career, Ms. Jani has remained dedicated to serving her community and advocating for justice on behalf of those who need it most.
