Bruce L. Adelson, Esq., is CEO of Federal Compliance Consulting LLC. He is a former U.S Department of Justice (DOJ) Senior Trial Attorney. During Bruce’s federal career, he was responsible for enforcing many federal laws. At DOJ, Bruce also had responsibility for enforcement and the enactment of federal policy.
Bruce is an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Family Medicine at Georgetown University School of Medicine and Adjunct Professor of Law at University of Pittsburgh School of Law. He teaches implicit bias in health care, civil rights, cultural awareness, and organizational culture. He has been a guest lecturer at Harvard, Cornell, and Auburn Universities, The Johns Hopkins University, University of Baltimore School of Law, and University of Michigan School of Law. He is the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Consultant to the Idaho Supreme Court and outside counsel to one of the largest health care systems in the United States.
Bruce is the expert in multiple federal and state lawsuits against health care providers alleging discrimination, having most recently assisted with the settlement of a case concerning a provider’s organizational culture and potential discrimination against patients. Bruce has never lost a health care provider or health care discrimination-based lawsuit. See: Juech v. Children’s Hospital & Health Systems, 353 F.Supp.3d 773 (E.D. Wis. 2018), Gray et al v. St. Louis City Board of Election Commissioners, (E.D. Mo., 2016), and Rose et al. v. Wayne County Airport Authority, 210 F.Supp.3d 870 (E.D. Mich., 2016).
He has been the keynote speaker, trainer, and outside counsel for many health care organizations, including: Memorial Hermann Health System; Bon Secours Health Care; Medstar-Georgetown Hospital; Sloan Kettering Cancer Center; Doctors Hospital at Renaissance; Memorial Health System; Minnesota Hospital Consortium; University of Minnesota; Minnesota Department of Health Services; Washington Department of Children, Youth, and Families; and Sentara Health Systems.
Bruce holds a BA in International Studies from The Johns Hopkins University and a JD from The University of Pittsburgh School of Law. He is licensed to practice law in the District of Columbia, Maryland, Michigan, and Virginia (inactive). He is licensed to practice before the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Michigan, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, the U.S. Courts of Appeal for the Fourth and District of Columbia Circuits and the U.S. Supreme Court. He is the author of 13 books, including the award-winning Brushing Back Jim Crow – The Integration of Minor League Baseball in the American South (University of Virginia Press).
