For over 40 years, Robert J. Jossen, the principal of Robert Jossen, PC, has been a seasoned trial lawyer and litigation attorney, with experience in many different types of disputes, touching financial, commercial, art, labor, education, and the legal industries. Mr. Jossen has served as a mediator and arbitrator in numerous disputes. He has extensive training in mediation and arbitration. His courtroom prowess has been recognized by election as a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers.
With a wealth of experience in prosecuting, defending, trying, and settling complex litigation problems, Mr. Jossen’s focus primarily is on dispute resolution, serving as a mediator or arbitrator, and separately, as a counselor on specific assignments providing advice and counsel to individuals or entities in crisis situations. As a neutral, his interest in mediation is purely to achieve a result which is satisfactory to all parties involved. As an arbitrator, his interest is to reach a just and reasoned decision based upon the information presented and the governing law.

Robert J. Jossen is the principal of his own firm, (Robert Jossen, PC, [email protected]), concentrating as a neutral in alternative dispute resolution (arbitration and mediation),  and special assignments in the white collar and regulatory area. He started his firm in May, 2018, after 13 years as a partner at Dechert, LLP, in New York.  At Dechert, he served as immediate Past Chair of the Global Litigation team and handled numerous trials, arbitrations and hearings.  Mr. Jossen is a Fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers and previously the Chair of the New York Downstate Committee for the College. He is also a Fellow in the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.
Before Dechert, Mr. Jossen was a partner in Swidler Berlin Shereff Friedman, and Shereff Friedman Hoffman and Goodman. He previously served as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Criminal Division of the Office of the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York. In addition to his trial experience in that office, he served as Chief Appellate Attorney.
In private practice Mr. Jossen’s trial experience has been in many different subject areas (including commercial and securities disputes, breach of contract issues, intellectual property issues, and disputes involving foreign governments), and in many different geographical locations. Throughout his practice, in addition to his work as an advocate, he has served as a neutral in arbitrations and mediations. He also has handled numerous internal investigations representing public companies, special committees and individual officers/employees.He is a graduate of Columbia University Law School (1972), and the School of Industrial and Labor Relations at Cornell University (1969). After law school he served as Law Clerk to the late Honorable Marvin E. Frankel, United States District Judge for the Southern District of New York.
